President of NABU Hamburg (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union)
Alexander Porschke, born on 22 February 1954, has served as president of the NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) office in Hamburg since 2010. In Hamburg NABU, which is one of Germany’s biggest environmental NGOs (500 000 members), has 21 000 members.
From 1997 to 2001 Alexander Porschke was Hamburg’s minister for the environment and from 2004 to 2007 he worked as a freelance consultant and trainer in South America (Peru, Ecuador and Guatemala) for a variety of international organisations.
Between 1986 and 1993 Alexander Porschke held various positions at the Hamburg Ministry of the Environment. From 1993 to 1997 he was member of the Hamburg Parliament, as chief whip of GAL Hamburg (Green Alternative List), environmental spokesman and spokesman for international relations, economic affairs, port and airport.
