Michael Shewchuk

Michael Shewchuk is a Legal Officer with the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs at the United Nations. He has worked in a number of capacities to support the work of the division and currently serves as secretary or legal officer to three Subcommissions of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

Mr Shewchuk previously worked as a Legal Officer for the Oceans and Environmental Law Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. He practiced international law in Calgary, Canada for over ten years and he has been a member of the Bar of the Province of Alberta since 1992.

Mr Shewchuk received a Bachelor of Arts with Specialisation from the University of Alberta, Canada (1988) and a Bachelor of Laws from Queens University, Canada (1991). He studied international law and international affairs at New York University and at the Hague Academy of International Law. He also taught international law for several years at New York University.
