Monika Breuch-Moritz
President of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency in Hamburg and Rostock
Monika Breuch-Moritz was born in Andernach, Germany, in 1953. From 1971 to 1976 she studied meteorology at the University of Bonn. After graduating she worked with the German Meteorological Service in the Agrometeorological Advisory and Research Office Weihenstephan in Freising. In 1989, she joined the Federal Ministry of Transport, weather service division. She was a member of the German delegation to the Second World Climate Conference and IPCC. In 1999 she assumed the role of head of Maritime Environmental Protection, Waterways Police, Port State Control and Sea Pilotage. In 2007 she was made head of Climate and Environmental Policy in Maritime Shipping focusing on the further development of environmental regulations in shipping.
In October 2008 she was named president of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency in Hamburg and Rostock. In this position she is a member of different scientific and technical advisory boards.
